July 27/28: More relations! Middy Ruth + Joe
same same Cyn + Rick + Sarah T.
Aug 3–5: Paul arrives 2am Friday morning 3AUG. No one else here, gate is locked – so he walks in in the dark and luckily finds the camper trailer set up. The next morning he breaks in through a bedroom window (no alarms on Lakehouse II, luckily, c.f. last August’s entry), calls down to Shunk, learns the wherabouts of the hidden gate key and sets up shop. Explored the lake – found signs of beaver and a Canada goose – first time he’s seen one here – and lots of blueberries. Joanne, Jason & Lucas arrive around 4PM.
After dinner on the porch and in a light rain the four play Trivial Pursuit, Jason wins. … about 11:30 PM the rest of the clan arrive. Daddy, Sarah, Caroline & Adam, all crammed into the bug.
Saturday night was the big 50th anniversary celebration of LL Baumunk & Son, featuring sawmill tours, a picnic and a square dance. Mary came up from New York so all the Baumunks were here, and all the Ford’s but Nina. Sort of a mini reunion. Paul departs for Elkins WV and a week of dancing early Sunday morning. All too short a visit.
Aug. 5: Mary’s waiting for me to drive back to NY. (Sniff.) Last night was very fun & festive & I’m glad I made it down! A bientôt, Shunk, j’espire, XOX Sarah
Fun dancing + trivial pursuit. Caroline
Thanks For Lunch on the day After Dale
After a fun-filled, action packed week in the “big apple”, I came home to a fun-packed, action-filled weekend with the Ford and Baumunk families.
Had a great Celebration day. Emily Kay
8/5/84: I’m glad everyone could be here for the 50 years celebration. It was wonderful! I love it when a plan comes together! Ann

D & me – put up the swing. (wow–excitement)
8/20/84: OF ALL THE VACATIONS I EVER HAD THE BEST ONE WAS SPENT IN SHUNK. THE PEOPLE THERE MADE IT GREAT AND THAT’S NOT A LOT OF JUNK. THANKS ADAM!!
JOE VIOLI FROM PHILLY!
SPRINGSTEEN FOREVER!!
KILIAN’S RULES
8/20/84: An incredible time spent in Shunk, water was great, the people were great and the nature scenes were great & also the four wheeler.
John X, Flannery
from Chestnut Hill
8/20/84: No bears today, but we did see a very pretty frog. Joe is trying not to fall in any more lakes. Cleaning catfish is disgusting! John, wanna have a catch? Hey, what to eat? Well, that’s about it for today. It’s been a lot of fun!!!
Keith Goudy
Flourtown, PA
Hi, i’m Adam, and i’m here again. Somehow, John, Joe, Keith, and i got off of work at Kilian’s Hardware store for a day or so, and we all came up to Shunk (with at least 10 baseball gloves!) in Joe’s Buick. Note here: Joe’s Buick doesn’t like rutty dirt roads. Well, all is the same, i guess, the 4-wheeler was great, and, while i’m at it, here are the results of the SHUNK-500:
ADAM | 11:13 |
JOE | 11:28 |
EMILY | 11:31 |
KEITH | 12:43 |
John didn’t get an official time due to mechanical failures and because it got too dark. Maybe next time…
Adam

P.S. (Now I must find my own Trivial Pursuit).
Aug 26, 1984: End of a vacation week for me – six perfect days – cool and sunny – Made Gramma’s pickles and blackberry jam. Jason kept us in blueberries – evening Scrabble games (peanuts!!). Nina renewed ties with Aunties – Trip to Ricket’s Glen –
– now off to get Jason set for Haverford, Adam geared up for Earlham, & Luke ready for Germantown Friends School.
– One of my overused favorire words still applies to this place – beautiful – I’m always reluctant to leave.
Joanne
8/26/84: Gorgeous 3-day R & R. Ken
