06.25.00: Well, some brief ~ 10 years later, we are back. This household is still the best, friendliest & happiest one we have ever had the privilege to share in. Thank you so much for allowing your wilderness sanctuary to be infested by our noisy troublesome family
I caught a fish – and that is in itself an unforgettable mystical experience. I hope to be invited back for many a blissful frolic in your woods, lake, fish catching, wonderful music & excellent companionship & conversation.
Lots of love from all of us, always
Boris, Anna, Masha (aka Spektors)
July 3, 2000: What a lovely place you have here in your little corner of paradise in the woods! I love your home, and the friendly atmosphere within. Thank you for the great lasagne dinner. I invite you and Ken to visit my little corner of paradise on the Pacific ocean in Cayucas, CA. My best
John Roper
July 10, 2000: A wonderful weekend in a beautiful location – again! Thank you to everyone for making it … . I certainly have to be back!

7-10-2000: So happy to be back! Found a new swing & BBQ grill this time. We’ve played a lot of spades. We’ve also eaten delicious chowder & strawberry jam and enjoyed beautiful bouquets. It was great to see Ian & family & meet Charlie! We don’t want to leave!

Thank you very much for having us. It was gret seeing old friends and making new ones. And, of course, talking about railroads.
–Brian Mentur & Heidid Kelly
Ian, Barbara & Masha were here – 7/15
Masha, 22 months, stayed two weeks more, then returned with Caroline on July 29th, to New Mexico. She is a kindred soul to Gramma — she loves the woods, flowers, stones, ferns, sticks and every little natural thing. She spots a ripe raspberry or blueberry and wants to “check the berries”. Her language development astonishes us. new words & sentences tumble out every day. We are amazed – and delighted – by her little dynamic blond self – tractable, energetic, and wanting to “help”. She caught a frog in the sand pile, chased a chipmunk down his hole at World’s End, caught ants in the kitchen, and listened to the birds sing. She loves to play with Thomas, Charlie, and Rachael, and loves to “go for a walk.”
7-28-00: Wow. I had a great time here during my three weeks. I’ve been doing lots of things this summer—playing ping-pong, canoeing, paddleboating, playing, walking, and just having a great time. I enjoyed meeting Ian’s friends and Jason’s friends also. Thank you for having me. Charlie 11½

I got married May 7 to Mark. I’m expecting a baby in November.
7/28/00: What was supposed to be a 25th year anniversary turned out to be the 24th! We have to make it here next year to have a finer jubilee celebrations.
Neela, Tata, Vijaya, Vinita, Venkatesh along with Kalle (Narasinha), Asha, Suli, Khyam & Fandhya were here. Arrived from Sundararanya at about 1:30 a m. Ken was waiting for us. Mom had gone to bed as she had a long round trip to Philadelphia.
In the morning had a short walk with Vijaya & Thomas. Again with … & Vinita in the afternoon went to see milking of the cow at Sebees now owned by Hornings. Got some milk. Had a very nice lunch then walked around the lake with Joanne. Went in the boat had lots of pictures. Discussed regarding plans for Labor Day. Looks like we will have a party of all the music students agree.
All of us enjoyed very much. We will be back again & again.
Happy rest of 2000.
Venkatesh
7/28/00: It is our good Karma that we came here and had a discussion about various things, walked in the woods, paddled in the water with mama Joanne and uncle Ford. Hope there is still more and a lot more of this remaining and yet to come! – Vijaya
7/28/100: Vijaya & Venkatesh have always expressed what I wanted to do. We had a wonderful & entertaining days. This is an institution to learn what there affection and discipli… – …
7-28-00: This was a fun weekend indeed! I not only went around the whole lake for the first time, but also got to visit all the new development: the barn, the treehouse, the new house cropping up in place of grandma & grandpa’s old house, and the Eby’s farm that’s no longer Eby’s farm. Asha’s twins came, and totally enjoyed it. They ran around the house, and went in the boats. I paddle-boated quite a few times today. If I was here longer, I’d definitely have a lot of exercise. This trip, however short, was extremely enjoyable, and reminded me very much of the time we came here with Pati & Tata in 96! I hope Tata enjoyed it too. I think he did. Okay, later!
Vinita
When Vijaya and Venkatesh surprised me of a visit to Shunk, I was so thrilled. The 2nd visit was unforgetable. Thanks to Mom for taking us around the lake. Time flies in here and it is out of the world. I hope to have a frequent visit to this place with my most nearest and dearest ones.
Neela
Very happy to come here again – this time with one twins (yr. 2000) Shyam & Sandhya. We enjoyed our entire stay. Narasinta & Asha
7/28/2000: This book probably has most of the words one can find as synonyms for eulogy expounding the beauty and serenity of the “home and the lake” — I have two words to add — “simply awesome”. I loved my 17 hours of stay here — loved talking with Ken and Joanne. It was surely a time-travel for me!! (and I didn’t need any backing from physics to explain it!!) – It was great!! Thanks!
– Sunil Satyan [with Raj Asha, Venkatesh etc]
7 Aug 2000: Elizabeth and Henry spent the traditional week – had one perfect day, others rainy. Brought new kayak (Perception “Swifty”) – used it almost daily. Henry swam once only. Thomas and Fritzi were here. Much Scrabble, trio chamber music. Fireplace. Lakehouse One construction in full swing. Rather a shock to us. Bought two new mauls, split a half cord of cherry.
Aug 7–10: Oops. Henny Walsh and her 16+ months-old Colin Costa visited from Vermont. Joyful.
August 13: I was sick for about a week with an upset stomach and diarrhea. What I liked best is my gramma gave me frank frog. Thomas

Arrived Saturday 12 Aug ~ 3PM having left Chicago 9PM the night before, spent the night just past Toledo in a Knight’s Inn. Nice to arrive in the middle of the afternoon after 9 hrs of driving rather than late at night after 13. Will try the same routine again next year. We’re on our way before dawn tomorrow – we’re trying to make Stratford Ontario for an 11:30 lunch date.
Busy week: the boys hiked around the lake; picked blueberries, swam in Pleasant Stream, jumped on the trampoline, roasted marshmallows, practiced piano, played in the sandbox, listened to Harry Potter, visited Horning’s dairy farm, ate corn on the cob, played with Thomas (for one short day), picked black berries, went paddle boating and canoeing, collected treasures, had a picnic lunch in the tree house, whew! Beautiful cool weather this week – only today was a bit overcast. Other notable outings and adventures included the Eagles Mere art fair, 4 nights of grilling, chance to see Ann & Bob, Dale & Lucy and Gramma who all joined us for different dinners during the week, and Paul’s drive down along Rock Run from Ellenton to Ralston (worth a visit next year for swimming in the creek)
P.S. Thomas –
There was a young man from Albuquerque
Where the weather was perfect, not murky
He got up one day
And went out to play
Feeling curious, groovy, and quite perky
I was here for a wonderful relaxing week after spending the summer finishing my book manuscript (summer? What summer?). Worked on perfecting my pie baking skills. Too cold to swim! Nina Aug. 26, 2000
Aug. 26: New this year: small bathroom opening onto the hall. Shelves in two bedrooms, computer line #2, Rock wall and rock steps on a large open area—now landscaped nicely. Rocks came from old wall on Leroy Mt.
September 2, 2000: Even though we only were able to stay here for less than a full day, I have to say that we thooroughly enjoyed our stay. There aren’t words to describe the serenity and beauty of this place! We hope to be back again soon!
~ Naresh, Sharada, Jyothi
Sept. 2, 2000: This place is so amazing! My family and I came here last night and we were so overwhelmed by the beauty and maintenance of the house that we were up all night thinking about it. This is my first time here and believe me it won’t ever be the last! The lake, the tree house, the little nature park, it’s all so beautiful. Thank you so much for making our experience unforggetable.
Yours truly
The Saraby Family – Kiran (the writer), Jyothi, Usha, Ramakanth
Sep. 2, 2000: Wow!
That is all I can say!! This place is amazing!!
Thank you
Sept. 2–3: As promised the “Sundaenaranga” family came here with 18 other friends & family. They are the Ramakanth’s family (4)—Ramakanth, Usha, Kiran, Jyothi; the Vynatheya’s family (3)—Naresh, Sharada & Jyoti; Prasad’s family (3)—Prasad, his mom & dad; the Ramani’s family (5)—Ramani, Sharada, Shreya & Vijay, Sharada’s mom; Sheela Ramesh (1), Mahendra’s family (2)—Mahendra, Purya & of course us (3)—Venkatesh, Vijaya, Vinita for a total of 21 people. The funny thing is – we had almost cancelled this trip as it was raining heavily in NJ. The kids – all the eight of them wanted to come no matter what — what attracted them to Shunk? Good Karma? – We will find out in time. Vinita grand pa is missing … As usual the serenity of this place is awesome and the best.
We had a full clan quarter walk around the lake. We had a nice sunny afternoon for the paddle boat – all enjoyed.
In the morning we had a group prayer – it was Ganesha’s festival. We had the Ganesha at the lake did prayers and left him at the lake. It was what we wanted to do. May be we will make this a tradition.
Hope all the other 20 people with me enjoyed their stay at the Lake House II. Lake House I is coming up just fine as a big palace. Wanted to write so much, but let it all remain a memory.
Vijaya & Venkatesh
Sept 3rd 00: The Ramani Family had a wonderful time on their maiden trip here. The ambiance combined with the excellent company of the Ramakanth Family, naresh & Fly, Mahendra & Fly, Prasad & Fly & Venkatesh’s made it a memorable experience. Vijay Ramani (10) played Scrabble, Shraya Ramani (8) played UNO with Priya & Jyothi & Vijay. We all had a great time paddling & looking for the wild life. I got to test0drive the SUV by going around the lake—truly “off road”. The best off road seen by the truck was our “lawn” until now!
Sept 3rd: Today we’re leaving, but first let me tell the story. Ok first we went to bed then we went on a hike. then after went boating. My parents saw a Lacna’s monster – Shraya
Sep. 3, 00: The second time I have come here in a couple weeks. I came 7-28-00. This time, however, was a very different experience. A whole bunch of amma’s music students came here, and we celebrated ganesha chathiarti. We sang on the deck and paddle-boated again. When we went to the dairy, the milking had fnished already, so Tracy explained the process to the adults. Us kids were having fun playing with the kittens. Compared to last time, which was just a month ago, the kittens had gotten so big. I actually overcame my fears and pet the kiten. I didn’t pick them up though. I think by next time, these kittens will have kittens. We also attempted to walk around the lake, from grandma’s old house side, but after a while we turned back because people wearing saris couldn’t step over the trees and mud. All in all I think every one had fun, especially with all these people here. We have to go now, but one last thing. We went to see grandma, and she was happy to see us as always. I gave her a bunch of wild flowers that I picked on the way back from the dairy. But now, the time has come to leave. Bye!
