4/23/12: 8″ of snow!
4/26/12: I arrived from Philly to a beautiful sunny day, with residual snow. Both water pipes at the end of the house were burst and the refrigerator had stopped working.

5/2/12: 3 bridges rebuilt, driveway patched, trampoline set up… Thanks to Ann, Bob, Brian, and Emily for putting many of the bridges back on their foundations!
Lots of oil/gas men on the road and in the woods. Helicopter flew over the house all day yesterday dropping supplies.
Teco and Seera enjoyed themselves as usual.
Did not get any boats out as the lake is the lowest that i’ve ever seen it. You can walk across the spilldam.
Cloudy rainy day today, but finally warm. Time to head back to vermont.

5/28/12: The Helliwll B’s return after 2 years. Bradley first time at Shunk. Thing as wonderful as before now w/ a 2 yr old. Shunk is awesome!
5/28/12: Shunk was lovely — the lake was low and the weather warm & lush. This time I discovered the trampoline — what fun! We also had a QUEST! 2 pairs of glasses & a cell phone recovered from the bottom of the (very shallow) lake… Ask Jonathan & Damaris how they got there, but I quite enjoyed diving for a purpose. We’re all amazed it actually worked & none of the objects appear to be worse for the wear! Thanks for a lovely Memorial Day weekend (for me, year 2)!

5/28/12: Thank you, ___ for a MUCH-needed long weekend. Shunk ___ ___ ___ from. Very cool. – Sean Blinn
5/28/12: Thank you for another great Shunk weekend – as always, I had a wonderful time & much needed rest. It was great meeting our new friend, Jonathan, as well. Thanks to the Fords, as always, for their hospitality & kindness!

5-28-12: An underwater newt, a swoop over from a bald eagle, and visits from Luna moths made this annual watching to remember. As always Shunk is a place to relax and laugh and enjoy the outside. Add in great food, great people, & the successful recovery of glasses I lost as the loser of a kayak-splashing fight (I capsized) and it’s certainly a memorable weekend. Thanks as always for your hospitality – I love it here and am very grateful.
5/28/2012: Thanks again for a wonderful weekend to relax and read and hang out with such interesting people, and glad to have had my first drive alone to Shunk turn out so smoothly without any wrong turns! Hope to see everyone again soon!
Diane
5/28/12: Thank you one and all for the invite. I had a glasses-diving, cell-phone-soaking, crushed-by Allison-in-Scattergories good time! I hope to see everyone in the fall! –Jonathan Mack
5/28: 12 people up here, including two two-year olds. May they become lifelong friends!

Wonderful week!
July 11, 2012
Isaiah & I came upon a new (to us) animal in the hemlocks along Adam’s path. Southern Flying Squirrel. We watched it play around the ground & tree. Glaucomys Volans White belly flaps.
July 16: I had a very fun time here this year. I found 24 Red-spotted Newts, 2 Dusky Salamanders, and one Redback Salamander. I also saw 2 more Redback Salamanders, 1 Leopard Frog, and a southern flying squirrel. Since the lake was ver low, there were stumps sticking out all over the lake. I took advantage of this and made houses and skyscrapers and lighthouses, and put them on one of the largest stumps. I founded a city!! Stumpton, Est. 2012.

Great to see Don up here again and Damon up here for the first time. We hope to repeat this mini reunion in years to come.
