August 18: Ken, Sarah, Caroline, and Arthur arrived from Boston to spend one marvelously relaxing day here before adding Jason to the passenger list and proceeding on (via Bonanza) to Socorro. Lake as beautiful and peaceful as ever. Discovered new cabinets in kitchen and bathroom!
Jason spent the summer with Gramma & Tabor Summer Camp
Monday, Aug 18: After a summer of listening to the Harvard Square subway construction, the trucks & buses rushing past all all house, and the loud conversation at the busstop—all just outside my 1st-floor window in Lionel Hell where I proctored for Harvard Summer School—it’s a relief to get to the lake—quiet & peaceful. Ahhh… Anxious, though, to move on to Socorro tomorrow (!) where i’ll stay (w/brief visit to Santa Fe to visit Jenny Wiedemann) until Nina & I drive the yellow bug east [uh, that is if we do…(HINT-HINT, Daddy).] around the 1st week in Sept. Senior year, here I come! gasp! – Sarah
I just spent 2½ weeks in Weston. C
Aug. 30: Adam and I drove our new Volvo (~25 miles/gal – highest price of gas $1.33) from Socorro to Shunk in four days. Adam, with his shiny new drivers license, took the wheel part of the way. (at age 15?) yes. We’re on our way to deliver him to Concord Academy to start his 10th grade. From there I’ll head west to Northfield, Minn. & meet Caroline and help her settle into Carleton Coll. It’s certainly quiet with only two of us!
Oct… 13? 14?… Monday: Jonny & I drove down Friday p.m. from Cambridge to study/relax, alternating between the two, for a few blissful days. (What?! We needed to escape already?!) The leaves are at their peak! I’ve never been to Shunk in autumn before—it’s beautiful! We had snow this a.m.! The lake is drained & full of stumps. We’re building lots of cozy fires. We saw some wild turkeys on the grade towards Wheelerville yesterday. We’ve had spaghetti for dinner every night (gag). We’re off tomorrow a.m. early after breakfast in Shunk w/Baumunks. – Sarah
