6-19-03: I stopped here overnight last week on my way to my 20th (eek!) High School Reunion at C.A. Now i’m back again for another overnight. Stayed in Mass with Edna and family, visited my friends Patrick in Providence and Nancy in Medford, then spent a night with Cornelia’s family in Chelsea, VT. Tomorrow it’s down to VA to visit Don and Aeron (i’d visit Jason too, but i think he’s still out west following the Ford reunion at SylvanDale Ranch in Colorado.), Then the long drive back to Chicago. teco and Seera are road warriors and seem to be putting up with all this driving. they were happy to run around in the woods today while i was doing a little path maintenance.
No food in the house!! Augh!

7-12-03: We drove here after a week in FGC in Johnstown PA. The trip out was 3½ days. The trip back is planned for 4 days. Masha enjoyed the paddle boat and helping Gramma with things. I liked the usual puzzles & games. Masha could do the first few Rush Hour puzzles by herself! We watched some trees being felled. Thanks for everything!
Ian and Masha

7-30-03: Back again for a day and a half for Gramma’s funeral. Flew in to Baltimore where i met up with Ian and Caroline and we drove up here. Feels weird to be here without Teco and Seera.

7/30/03: Just flew in for Gramma’s funeral but got to see Charlie & Thomas! They’ve been gone 10 days & will be staying another 10 after I leave today. Now that I’m here I wish I could stay longer! I went for a kayak ride on the mirror lake, visited/toured the new house for the first time, ate blueberries. The weather was beautiful—a fine day to say goodbye to Gramma.
Caroline

Back again! (Got blueberries this time) By Gramma.

8/8/03: Great Gramma died. But I still had a great summer here! Went to the dairy farm, Knoebels, World’s End, and Ricketts Glen. This year the lake was higher that it’s ever been seen by me! I also went to New York City, stayed at a hotel saw natural history musem. 42 st. (broadway show and street), times square, circle tour around the harbor, and top of empire state building. BYE!

Aug ? (same day as Thomas): Wonderful 3-wk stay. NYC was the place to be. Planning a party for next year. Was here for Gramma’s funeral. DJing is getting better… seems to be a never-ending cost. Heading for high-school!
Charlie (14)

Aug 1–9: Great stay. 5 boys running around Nate Colin, Max Thomas & Charlie with Casey (2) running along after. They taught her to stand on the deck. She would yell ECHO… then turn around and ask “who’s that?” Over & over again. We took a trip to Ricketts Glen and saw all the beautiful waterfalls full from all the rain. We ate & ate but didn’t finish all the ham! Home-made ice cream & blueberry pie. Pulled pork & winde & cheese!
(Wendy)

Aug 9: What a great place for 9 yr old boys. Max, Nick & I had a great stay – very special place. Couldn’t get enough blueberries. The lake is so serene & beautiful, no TV for a week! Will never forget our trip here. Thanks!

Aug 9: Paul Wendy Nate Colin Casey Iniki & friends Rich Marianne and Max (9) Newton-Smith w/ their dog Sam.
World’s End, High Nob, Rickett’s Glen, swimming, ice cream, bushwacking in the rain, rain & more rain, bonfire, fine wines and dining, pulled pork, blueberries, corn, ran red light in Dushore, Risk, jigsaw puzzles, dairy visit, roast beef dinner at the fire station, ping pong tournament, etc. A week goes by too quickly. (Paul)

Aug. 9: A beautiful location—what a treasure! For the first time since I can remember I didn’t wear my watch for an entire week! The lake is so calming. I never knew there was rainforest in Pennsylvania! (Rain for the entire visit.) Max had a wonderful time, and especially enjoyed getting to hang around with the older boys (Charlie and Thomas). They were a pleasure—great kids! I only hope some of the photos I made begin to do justice to your amazing place. Thank you so much for letting us visit!
Rick Smith (Marianne, Max, Sam)

Aug 9: Isaiah Suchman’s first visit to Shunk: Couldn’t have been better! Lots of hugs and vitamin P (“praise”), all around. Joanne was wonderful holding him and coaxing smiles from under his furrowed brow. he dearly loved it — and Nina and Mark kind of loved it, too. After 3 weeks on the road, driving east from Palo Alto, the two days at the lake were a perfect break. Can’t wait to bring Isaiah back when he can swim! (Mark)

Aug. 9: Nina, Mark and Isaiah stopped by on the last leg of their cross-country camping trip via Eurovan camper. The drive through the west was beautiful. Unfortunately, Gramma died the day we pulled out of Palo Alto, and we weren’t able to make the funeral. I will miss her greatly. Our visit to the lake was all too short. We’re off to NYC and Stratford to take Isaiah to meet the relatives, then on to Providence for the year.

Aug. 24, 2003: Dena & Sandy Sheer. Live in Phila, vacationing in Eagles Mere. Walk & lunch.

8/22 – 8/25/2003: Diane Claire Abigail and Isabelle had a great time exploring nature with Ken and Joanne. Abbe & Issy loved picking blueberries, riding in the back of the truck (no carseats!), visiting the “Big Tree”, shucking corn, jumping off the water trampoline and swimming in the lake. Issy loved her friends lowly the inchworm and Freddie the frog while Abbe loved playing Blockhead with her.
We loved waking up to having coffee in the morning by the fire! We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to visit and nicer friends to visit with!

Thank you Ken & Joanne
Love the lake

PS. It’s noon now and the girls just had a skinny dip in the lake!

9/1/03: Stop plate tectonics! Reunite Gondwanaland!
Thanks – again – for a good weekend with good friends

9/1/03: Goodbye Shunk! I will miss you! May we meet again soon.
Daniel J. …

Another Shunk trip with the friends and my father here as well. It’s sad that Grandma isn’t around any more, but we’ll always be grateful to her for the lake – – and everything else she did!
Jason

9/1/03: I really appreciate that my three days in Shunk puts all the stress of city life into perspective. I have yet to come here without leaving more centered on what’s really important and with a cheery mood on how to get there. Thanks for the opportunity!
Rebecca Nielsen

9/22: Here unexpectedly. Hurricane Isabel moved through Philadelphia leaving us without electricity for two days. So – we put all the boats away, put netting around trees, & stored swings & tables on deck. Whew – J.

October 8, 2003: Crispy clear blue sky, sunshine, leaves beginning to turn. Apples 7 bushels of Northern Spy and Ida Red apples at Landon’s Orchard. Grilled cheese sandwiches and applesauce lunch at Lucy’s and cheese & crackers, soup and bread for late supper before the fire with Joanne, Lucy, Trude and Donna. Wonderful!
Donna Wilhelm

A wonderful apple-picking … … – once again – Thank you all for letting me part of it.
Trude
