5-9-14: Mommy and i arrived seperately on Monday, she from Philly, me from Providence. Pipes were burst. Tuesday i fixed the far end of the pipes only to discover that ALL the pipes were burst, back to the pressure tank. Plumbers were here for 2 days replacing everything. Meanwhile, i was in bed with a nasty head cold. Today – Friday – Seera and i are heading down to Philly for a day or two, then back to VT. Lake is full.

6/~25/2014: Up for one overnight – to do laundry!
The Phoebe is back, but on the NE side of house. The nest is perched on the light fixture. The children’s patch of blueberries has lots of green ones.

7-5-14: I spent 3 days here as a sort of intermition between phases of my summer. I went swimming and kayaking every day. Once I was caught practicing dipping in the middle of the lake when it started raining. Failing to climb onto the kayak, I had to swim to shore with the kayak in tow. No berries yet (except strawberries), but I made stinging nettle spinach (enjoyed by both G & P) and elderberry flavor pancakes. It’s been an excellent visit even with so few people around.

26 Jul 2014: Paul & Casey spent a week. Wendy joined on Thursday. Lakota ran off Saturday 7/19 and hasn’t returned. Hope he shows up soon. Great week: Giant bass, bike rides, roast pork, fresh corn, Knoebel’s, and of course, Lindley’s wedding.
Dog found! July 27, 2014. Adam to the rescue — delivered dog to Paul on Rt. 14.

7-28-14: Two weeks of vacation, one weekend of which was spent in Sarasota, Florida for Masters Nationals. Fixed a bridge, did some path work and mowing, cut away a couple of fallen trees… Blueberries are just getting ripe!

8/16/14: Daniel was here

8/16/14: Jason and Steven just finished a few days here with Abby having to stay home. Best year for the blueberries in at least 10 years! Mother, father, Isaiah, thanks for the hospitality!
Jason

8-18-14: I spent a very, very long time here this summer. I went to Lindley’s wedding, caught a new record number of Red-Spotted Newts, and built two town from wood blocks: Sandsdale, with Daniel, Zack, and Ben; and Stumpton, on a stump by myself. The lake was very high this year, so I did no swimming, but I did do a lot of kayaking. I have done everything I wanted to do here in these three long weeks!

8/24/14: DON, DYLAN & ETHAN. Another wonderful stay with hiking, fishing and helping Adam carry stuff to the barn. We will be back as the hospitality is outstanding! We look forward to being back real soon.

8-27-14: A needed but too-short break from work. Steady rain the first day here, but then 4 beautiful days in a row. Lots of berry-picking with Don and his kids—made 4 batches of jelly! Wish i could stay for much longer.

9-1-14: It’s Labor Day today. Joanne and I labored a bit in the barn to remove some cobwebs, dust, and dead leaves. I’ve had a lovely low key quiet time with my good friends, Ken and Joanne, for three cool and cloudy, rainy days. On the driest day Joanne and I walked along the grade, then to the big spruce tree, on along the wonderful meadow full of white and blue asters and golden goldenrods, sweet blackberries, an apple tree with plump unripened fruit which became applesauce, and glorious vistas of trees and grasses. Ontwo nights i’ve read the two act play, “And the Sun Stood Still”, by Dava Sobel, in which we accompanied Copernicus and his mathematician friend, Rheticus, as they agonized about the astronomical truths and the church’s position.

Birding was sparse but we had two special sightings: An osprey at the north end of the lake, and a raven on the grass before the dock.
Thanks for such a special visit – Love

What a summer! Lindley’s wedding, septic tank gone awry, lovely grandchildren for short & long stays, and cool weather mostly. Ravens have visited.

10-5-14: 6-hour drive down here on Friday evening. 6-hour drive back today. House is closed up – water drained, everything off. Not as much color on the trees down here as there is in Vermont!
