Tractor

Deisel fuel in yellow container in garage (sometimes it’s in Shunk)

LEVERS:

Left side of steering wheel: Forward, Neutral, Reverse. MUST be in Neutral to start.

Right side of steering wheel: 1 – 4 gears. Note that reverse 1–4 is faster than forward 1–4 (R/2 is about equal to F/3 or F/4)

Red throttle control
I generally run it at about 2000 RPM. You can bump it up to the 540 mark if doing mowing, but it’ll mow just fine at anything above 2000

TO START:

Turn key backwards (top toward you) until the glow plug red light on the dashboard goes out (about 10 – 15 seconds). Turn forwards to start.

LEFT SIDE LOW: Range selector level: L – M – H

Use L for driving in the woods or on uneven ground, or for scooping
Use M for general moving around
Use H for getting places, i.e. driving down the grade
It takes a soft touch with the clutch when starting in H/3 or H/4.

LEFT SIDE HIGH/BACK: PTO (Power Take-Off) engager. Forward to engage, backward to disengage. Tractor will not start with PTO engaged. Clutch must be in to engage.

LEFT FLOOR: Clutch

RIGHT FLOOR: Brake. If you need to set the brake when the tractor is still (such as on an incline), press in the brake and pull the small orange rod on the floor toward you to lock the brake. Push the brake to release the lock.

There’s a small black pedal that will temporarily increase throttle, like an accelerator pedal. Usually never need to use it unless you need a little boost to get up a steep hill or something.

RIGHT SIDE, BELOW YOUR RIGHT THIGH: Orange 4WD lever. Pull straight up to engage 4WD. Push down for 2WD. It is usually difficult to get it out of 4WD and it takes going back and forth between Forward and Reverse, sometimes using the weight of pushing down with your foot on the lever.

DO NOT GO DOWN A HILL WITH A LOAD IN THE BUCKET WITHOUT BEING IN 4WD. The brakes only work on the back wheels and with a full bucket-load, they just skid down the hill and don’t slow you down!

Immediately below that is a small blue metal knob sticking out. Pressing down on this (hard) will lock the transfer cases and force the tractor into actual 4WD. Use this if you are on uneven, muddy ground and the drive wheels start spinning. It unlocks as soon as you let off of the knob.

RIGHT SIDE HIGH: Lift-lever for attachments. When driving around and not using attachment (usually the mower), this lever should be all the way back, raising the mower off the ground. If you are doing mowing, it’s a good idea to keep you hand on this lever at all times so that you can lift the deck when it inevitably hits a rock. When i mow, i usually don’t have the deck all the way down—just enough for the drag wheel to me touching and the deck is relatively level.
